Reduce setups

Every extra setup adds fixturing and handling. Cluster features so the part can be finished in one or two operations. 5-axis or live-tooling lathes collapse multi-setup parts into one.

Reduce cycle time

  • Remove unnecessary material (don’t start from an oversized billet).
  • Use generous internal corner radii so bigger, faster tools fit.
  • Relax tolerances and finish where function allows.

Reduce scrap

Tight tolerances and thin walls increase scrap. Default to stock tolerance and only tighten critical features.

Choose material wisely

Aluminum and brass machine fast and cheap; titanium and PEEK cost more. Match the grade to need, not to habit.
