What is CNC Turning?

CNC turning is a machining process where the workpiece rotates while a stationary cutting tool removes material. This process is ideal for creating cylindrical parts with precise diameters, including shafts, pins, bushings, and threaded components.

Rotational Parts

Finished Turned Components

Shafts, bushings, and threaded parts are machined to the diameters your drawing specifies, then verified before shipment.

Shafts & Pins

Cylindrical shafts with multiple diameters, steps, and grooves.

Bushings & Sleeves

Hollow cylindrical parts with precise inner and outer diameters.

Threaded Parts

External and internal threads with standard or custom pitches.

Flanges

Rotational parts with integrated flange features.

Quality Coordination

Verified Before Shipment

Inspection is coordinated to the inspection plan you agree on. Specify critical dimensions and acceptance criteria so capability can be confirmed.

CNC turning works with a wide range of materials. Material availability confirmed during project review.

  • Aluminum alloys (6061, 7075, 2024)
  • Stainless steel (303, 304, 316, 17-4 PH)
  • Brass and bronze
  • Steel alloys
  • Engineering plastics (Delrin, Nylon, PEEK)

FAQ

What's the difference between CNC turning and milling?

In turning, the workpiece rotates while the tool is stationary. In milling, the tool rotates while the workpiece is stationary. Turning is best for cylindrical parts, while milling excels at prismatic geometries.

What tolerances can CNC turning achieve?

Turning tolerance capability is confirmed from the part geometry, material, critical dimensions, datum strategy and inspection plan. Specify the required acceptance criteria in your drawing so they can be reviewed before quoting.

Can you machine internal features?

Yes, CNC turning can create internal bores, internal threads, and internal grooves. Depth is limited by tool reach and part diameter.
