Brass and copper are easy to machine and bring useful properties—conductivity, corrosion resistance, and a premium look.

Brass — the machinist favorite

Free-machining brass (e.g., C360) cuts cleanly at high speed with minimal tool wear and a beautiful finish. Ideal for fittings, valves, connectors, and decorative hardware.

Copper — the conductor

Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity drives use in bus bars, heat exchangers, and RF parts. It is gummy to machine—sharp tools and positive rake help control built-up edge.

Design tips

  • Allow for slight springback in thin brass sections.
  • For copper, avoid tight internal corners that trap swarf.
  • Both anneal-soften if heavily worked; plan any hardening into the process.
